plaster, gauze, catalpa seed pods

“Man is made of dreams and bones.”

Plaster bandages, emblematic of broken bones, damage and repair, are used to fill the cavity of individual collected catalpa seed pods. The resultant object is a unique record of this interior space, the space which carries the seed. In the process of casting this form, some of those seeds, tiny vessels of genetic material, are embedded in the plaster cast form.

The hand-formed casts accumulate and are carefully placed, stacked and balanced relying on one another for structure and support. The slender chalky objects might resemble kindling for a fire, a pile of ribs or antler sheds, twigs or relics, dreams or bones.
